Lake Keowee is at 97.2% of full pool. Water temperatures have remained steady this past week, and they are in the mid-50s on the lower and upper ends of the lake and around 60 near the power plant. The lake is probably at its low temperature for the winter as the hours of sunlight each day will increase.

One only has to look at the recent BFL tournament results to know that bass fishing is tough on Lake Keowee, and N&C Marine/Skeeter Team member Guide Charles Townson (864-324-2065) points

The spring bass fishing tournament schedule is really ramping up on South Carolina lakes, and this weekend there are several CATTs, a couple of ABA events, a B.A.S.S. Nation (old Federation) event on Russell, a benefit tournament onClarks Hillan open event on Wylie and of course a Sunday Showdown Series to cap off the weekend on Santee.  Butfor the second week in a row we are featuring the BFL, this time a South Carolina division event on Lake Murray, where again a number of our correspondents and even more customers will be fishing.

Tournament results will be posted here as they are received.

Super Bowl weekend features a bunch of major bass fishing tournaments on South Carolina lakes, including a CBC on Lake Murray, a couple of CATTs, an ABA tournament, a Sunday Showdown Series event on Santee, and a Super Bowl Sunday open on Clarks Hill.  But we are featuring the BFL Savannah River division

February 5

Surface water temperatures have dropped to about 52 around Hilton Head, and the water is very clear except when the winds are high. Even then it gets back to gin clear after a day.

Luckily the redfish bite remains pretty good around Hilton Head, and Captain Kai Williams (843-816-7475) reports

February 5

Inshore surface water temperatures rose a bit then dropped back to around 48 degrees in Beaufort, and water clarity remains high most of the time.

Even though Beaufort redfish are certainly still eating, Bay Street Outfitters (843-524-5250) reports

February 5

Inshore surface water temperatures around Edisto Island are down to about 50 degrees and the water is still clear.

The best trout fishing remains in the creeks, but Captain Ron Davis, Jr. (843-513-0143) reminds

February 5

Inshore water temperatures are down to about 48 degrees.

It’s not technically a saltwater report, but Captain Rob Bennett (843-367-3777) reports

February 5

Surface water temperatures are around 49 in Murrells Inlet, and when the weather is decent the water is crystal clear.

Baisch Boys Bait and Tackle (843-651-1915) has regular and jumbo mud minnows, fresh shrimp, a full range of frozen baits – and has just started carrying crappie minnows!

The fishing is pretty tough on the south end of the Grand Strand, and Captain Jay Baisch (843-902-0356) points out

February 5

Water temperatures are about 49 right now, and particularly on the incoming tide water conditions are gin clear in the creeks.

It continues to be a really good time for fishing on the north end of the South Carolina Grand Strand, and Captain Patrick “Smiley” Kelly (843-361-7445) reports

February 5

Lake Wylie is at 97.1% of full pool and surface water temperatures are in the mid-40s to lower 50s. With all the recent rains sections of the lake are muddy again.

The bass fishing has been a little up-and-down on Lake Wylie, and tournament angler Reid McGinn of Fort Mill reports

February 5

Lake Hartwell water levels are down to 657.21 (full pool is 660.00). The main lake is clear but there is some stain in the backs. Water temperatures range from the upper 40s to low 50s.

With all the recent rain there is still plenty of dirty water in the creeks, and Guide Brad Fowler reports

February 5

Lake Jocassee is at 97.3% of full pool and surface water temperatures in the big water are in the low 50s, but cooler up the rivers. Clarity is typically high.

It’s a still a good time to try for a big trout on Lake Jocassee, although Guide Sam Jones (864-280-9056) reports

February 5

Santee Cooper water levels are up to 74.54 in Lake Marion (full pool is 76.8) and 73.38 in Lake Moultrie (full pool is 75.5). Surface water temperatures range from 49-53 and the lake is stained but not muddy.

It’s been some nasty weather this week on Santee, but when it’s worth getting out on the water the bass seem to be biting decently. Captain Brett Mitchell (803-379-7029) reports

February 5

Lake Monticello morning surface water temperatures are still around 50 degrees or just below, and the water is overall clear. Lake levels normally fluctuate daily.

It’s a transition time on Lake Monticello, and there are a couple of different ways to catch bass right now.  B.A.S.S. angler Andy Wicker of Pomaria reports

February 4

Lake Greenwood water levels are at 434.39 (full pool is 440.0). Water temperatures are about 46 degrees and the lake is still muddy with the lower lake a bit better.

Despite still-tough water conditions the crappie fishing on Lake Greenwood has significantly improved, and Guide Daniel Skipper (864-430-0488) reports

February 4

Lake Russell water levels are at 474.09 (full pool is 475.00). Water temperatures are down to about 48-49 degrees and the lake is pretty clear.

There has been some really good fishing recently on Lake Russell, and Guide Jerry Kotal (706-988-0860) reports

February 4

Lake Wateree is back up to 96.2% of full pool and water temperatures remain in the upper 40s. The lake is already pretty muddy, from one end to the other, with more rain on the way.

The water coming up a bit is a good thing for bass fishing on Lake Wateree, but tournament angler Dearal Rodgers of Camden reports

February 4

Clarks Hill water levels are at 328.16 (full pool is 330.00) and water temperatures range from about 50 or 51 down the lake to the upper 40s up the rivers. The lake has a slight stain but has cleared a bit.

On Clarks Hill the hybrid and striped bass are starting to make their seasonal move back towards the lower end, and William Sasser Guide Service (706-589-5468) reports

February 4

Lake Murray water levels are at 354.46 (full pool is 360.00).  Most of the lake is fairly clear and conditions are even decent up the rivers, where it is not muddy but the water has some color. Water temperatures range from the mid-40s up the rivers to 50 near the dam.

Water temperatures are about the same from the top to the bottom of the water column, and Captain Brad Taylor (803-331-1354) reports

February 2

Lake Keowee is at 98.9% of full pool. Water temperatures are in the mid to upper 50s over most of the lake, with the coolest water in the backs of the creeks. Water clarity is normal except in the back of major creeks where it is dingy due to recent rains.

The winter bass fishing patterns remain intact on Lake Keowee, and N&C Marine/Skeeter Team member Guide Charles Townson (864-324-2065) reports

Tournament results will be posted here as they are received.

Surface water temperatures are in the low 50s in Murrells Inlet and the water is very clear when the weather is decent.

Baisch Boys Bait and Tackle (843-651-1915) has regular and jumbo mud minnows, fresh shrimp, and a full range of frozen baits.

The water has gotten so cold on the south end of the Grand Strand that there frankly aren’t that many fish feeding inshore, but Captain J Baisch (843-902-0356) reports
