ABA Weekend Series Lake Murray / Fishers of Men Lake Murray
The American Bass Anglers Weekend Series South Carolina Division (D9) has its first tournament of the 2015 season this Saturday out of Dreher Island State Park, as does the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail Stren Team Series South Carolina Low Country Division. Veteran tournament angler Captain Doug Lown notes that winning weights have been falling on Lake Murray, and last week it only took a little over 17 pounds to win a CATT event. The previous two weeks team and individual events had taken 23-25 plus pounds to win. Predictions have been that it will take 16-17 pounds to win the tournaments this weekend… what do you think???
CATT Lake Wateree (x2)
The Carolina Anglers Team Trail has two tournaments on Lake Wateree out of Clearwater Cove this weekend, the second Spring Qualifier and the second Wateree Open (no membership fee) event. Anglers can fish both. Tournament director Brett Collins says that the bite has been pretty tough on Lake Wateree, and he says the water is simply too cold for that lake to fish well. It should get better soon, but for now Brett predicts that 15 pounds might be enough for the win(s).
CATT Lake Wylie Spring Qualifier
The Carolina Anglers Team Trail has its second Spring Qualifier on Lake Wylie out of Buster Boyd this weekend, a tournament which was originally scheduled for February 14 but was postponed due to weather and tournament competition. As it usually does in the winter, Lake Wylie has been fishing better than Lake Wateree and Brett expects it to take 20 pounds to win this weekend – as in recent events on the lake.
Fishers of Men Lake Greenwood
The Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail Stren Team Series South Carolina Upstate Division has its second tournament of the season on Lake Greenwood out of the State Park this weekend. Last weekend’s ABA event on the lake saw a 20- plus pound bag winning the event, but there was only one more bag over 15 pounds caught and ten out of 24 anglers did not weigh in any fish. The top weights appear to have been caught on crankbaits and chatterbaits, and it will be interesting to see if shallow patterns prevail this weekend after another week of cold weather this week.
